David Grubbs is an American author, academic, installation artist and musician/composer who releases most of his musical output on Drag City. He was a founding member of Bastro and Gastr Del Sol (with Jim O'Rourke). He has played in Codeine, Bitch Magnet and The Red Krayola (with Mayo Thompson), and he has performed on recordings by Will Oldham, Tony Conrad, Dirty Three, and Royal Trux, to name but a few. He has published three books of prose detailing his experiences onstage and in the recording studio, along with a scholarly work, Records Ruin the Landscape: John Cage, the Sixties, and Sound Recording, published in 2014 from Duke University Press. He has a PhD in English from the University of Chicago, and he is currently Professor of Music at Brooklyn College. His collaboration with Kramer is called SQUANDERERS.
