• Marianne Faithfull

Marianne Faithfull was one of the great fashion icons of London's 'Swinging 60s'. Her singing career began in 1964 when she was 17 years old with the Jagger/Richards classic "As Tears Go By", recorded and released one full year before The Rolling Stones released their own version in 1965.

A descendant of Leopold Von Sacher-Masoch (whose erotic novel 'Venus In Furs' spawned the word 'masochism'), Marianne's contribution to the arts over a 45-year career include 18 studio albums as a singer/songwriter and interpreter, and numerous appearances as an actor
on stage (Chekhov, Shakespeare, Osborne, Weill)
and screen (Godard, Anger, Driver, S. Copolla, Villenueve).

In 2011 she was awarded the Commandeur of the Ordre des Arts et des Lettres, France's highest cultural honor.

Marianne's deep friendships with producer Hal Willner and poet Gregory Corso was memorialized on Corso's "DIE ONE ME" LP (Shimmy-2033), much of which was recorded by Willner just days prior to Corso's death in 2001 in Minnesota, where they had gathered to read his poetry, and to wish him well on his final journey.

Marianne followed him on January 30, 2025, at the age of 78.
