• Hunter S. Thompson

The father of Gonzo Journalism, Hunter S. Thompson is an American institution. In 1970, he gave birth to his particular brand of hardcore reportage with THE KENTUCKY DERBY IS DECADENT AND DEPRAVED, and in 2011, Hal Willner and Bill Frisell immortalized it in a recording studio. Six years earlier, in 2005, Thompson blew his brains out with a .45 and (as per his wishes) had his closest friends fire his ashes out of a cannon set atop a 155-foot tower in the shape of a double-thumbed fist holding a peyote button, accompanied by red white blue and green fireworks, all to the tune of Dylan's "Mr. Tambourine Man". Hunter Thompson lives on, forever.
